How to Properly Install an Air Filter

Replacing an air filter is not a difficult task, but it is important to make sure it is installed correctly. Air filters have arrows printed on the sides that indicate the direction in which the air flows through the system. The arrows should point away from the supply ducts and towards the blower. Most air filters are designed to not fit properly unless they are inserted correctly, so look for the arrows when installing a new filter.

When air is drawn in or sucked in, the arrows on the air cleaner should point INWARD towards the duct. This applies specifically to return air ducts, and may differ slightly for window air conditioning units or air handling cabinets. Be careful when removing the old air filter, as it has probably accumulated quite a lot of dust and other particles. When installing a new filter, make sure that the arrow is pointing TOWARDS the oven.

This ensures that air flows from your ducts, through the filter and into the oven. If you install the air cleaner incorrectly, the oven will have to work a lot harder to do its job properly. When you place the air filter in the wrong direction, it cannot capture dust and air particles, and they will remain floating in the air. Air filters can become clogged with dust, mold, or pet dander, and as a result, air cannot easily pass through them.

For optimal indoor air quality and efficiency near the Coachella Valley, just make sure your air filters are installed correctly. All air filters have specific performance ratings, indicating how well they can remove large and small particles from the air. Metal is placed behind the filter media to maintain its rigidity as air passes through it. Regardless of the HVAC system you have, each unit needs a properly tuned quality filter to keep indoor air quality clean and your unit operating at peak efficiency. When changing an air filter, always remember that the arrows should point in the direction of airflow.

Installing an air cleaner incorrectly will reduce its efficiency and cost you additional money. So make sure to match up the directions of the arrows when replacing your filter.
